Scope of Work
The desired solution should be based on the ISO/OSI network management model's five functional areas as listed below.
a) Fault Management— Detect, isolate, notify relevant people, log and correct faults encountered in the network.
b) Configuration Management— Tracking of changes on network devices such as configuration file management, inventory management, and software management. Examples of to be tracked changes include: altering the running configuration of a device, updating the IOS version of a router or switch, or adding a new modular interface card etc.
c) Performance Management—Monitor and measure various aspects of performance so that overall performance can be maintained at an acceptable level. This area is concerned with gathering regular network performance data such as network response times, packet loss rates, link utilization, and so forth.
d) Security Management—Provide access to network devices and corporate resources to authorized individuals. The goal of security management is to control access to assets in the network. Security management functions include managing network authentication, authorization, and auditing, such that both internal and external users only have access to appropriate network resources. Other common tasks include the configuration and management of network firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and security policies such as access lists.
e) Accounting Management—Usage information of network resources – to gather usage statistics for users. Accounting management is concerned with tracking network utilization information.
