Scope of Work:
The South African Agency for Promotion of Petroleum Exploration and Exploitation (Petroleum Agency SA), acting under its mandate as set out in the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act No. 28 of 2002, hereby announces that it will hold a new bid round.
Available acreage:
- Orange Basin Deep Water Licence Area
- Tugela Licence Area
The areas are divided into ¼ degree blocks or parts thereof. Minimum bids should be for at least a ¼ degree block and may be any contiguous shape within the bid areas.
Data:
Orange Basin Deep Water Licence Area – the northern section of this area between 30 and 31 degrees south latitude, is covered by multi-client 2D data available from PGS Exploration. Contact Adriana Sola on +44 1932 376482 or adriana.sola@pgs.com
Tugela Licence Area – a sample data set containing navigation and SEG-Y data for key 2D lines (about 900 km), well data, logs and reports is available from the Petroleum Agency at a cost of $10 000. A short booklet covering prospectivity is available free of charge from Petroleum Agency SA.

Licence application procedure:
Exploration companies are invited to submit bids for either a Technical Cooperation Permit or Exploration Right. These should be submitted in the form of normal applications for such permits or rights, using the prescribed forms, and accompanied by all required supporting documents and a non-refundable application fee. By their nature, Exploration Right bids will take precedence over Technical Cooperation bids.
